How can you change a sleep pattern around without pills?

I was working a 5pm-2am job recently and now have a new jo offer but I have to get up at 7am in order to be at work by 8am. I have tried to "push forward" by trying to stay up till 8 am but I always fail and end up falling out around 6 am anyways(normal time i would go to bed) I have set an alarm for 9 am trying to shorten one night to sleep the next but I always end up ignoring the alarm. I have tried sleeping pills but they just give me a headache and make me sleep longer than normal.
